About the instructor
I began my study of yoga almost 5 years ago while a psychology graduate student. I graduated from The University of Georgia in 2005 with a M.S. in Psychology and a Graduate Certificate of Gerontology. I plan to begin work on my PhD within the next few years in Counseling Psychology, but right now I am thoroughly enjoying one of my passions, which is teaching yoga. While I have experienced different styles of yoga with various teachers, my heart and loyalty lies with Integral Yoga Hatha. This study began in Athens, GA and eventually progressed to its origin, Satchidananda Ashram - Yogaville in Virginia, where I lived for 8 months in 2006 while part of a work-study program, studying and practicing Raja Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, and, of course, Hatha Yoga. I received my teacher certification in August 2006 at the ashram's training academy in Virginia and began teaching my first regular classes at the ashram. I have also taught Hatha Yoga in Georgia. I believe that yoga is one of the greatest gifts people can give to their bodies, minds, and spirits. It is nurturing on every level. And, as the founder of Integral Yoga Hatha, Swami Satchidananda, said, it makes for an easeful body and a peaceful mind, which enable you to be useful in your service to others. It is a way of taking care of yourself so that you may also better care for your environment and all other beings that share it with you.
From the ashram, I relocated to Austin, TX in January 2007. I'm very excited about teaching Integral Yoga Hatha here in Austin. One of my favorite components of this style of yoga is its very meditative quality throughout each class. There is a guided relaxation component which really appeals to my background in psychology. But, I truly love every single element of an Integral Yoga Hatha class, and I have a rather eclectic background that definitely influences my teaching. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share the teachings of Integral Yoga Hatha with you. It is truly my pleasure to serve you in this way.
While in Virginia, I also received training in the art of Thai Yoga through the Lotus Palm - School of Thai Yoga Massage. My love of yoga has extended to this form of kinesthetic art as well, and it is a pleasure to offer these services here in Austin.
